The hidden weight of an international move
When an employee relocates for work, the company briefs them on logistics, taxes, schools, and housing. What often goes unsupported is everything else.
The identity loss. The career pause for a partner who left a job behind. The social isolation in a country where they don't yet have a network. The quiet grief of leaving a city, a community, a version of themselves.
These are not minor issues. They are among the most common reasons international assignments end early, employees disengage, and families ask to come home.
This is exactly the territory where focused, expat-specific coaching makes a measurable difference.
How I work with companies
I am Bella Hofmann, an ICF Certified coach who works exclusively with expat women and their partners. My practice is bilingual (English and Spanish, native in both), virtual or in person, and grounded in a population that general wellness programs typically overlook.
I work with companies in three ways:
Inclusion in your wellness or benefits program
I can be added as a specialist coaching option inside your existing wellness, EAP, or mental- health benefits framework. Your expat employees and their partners book sessions with me directly.
You provide a meaningful, specialized benefit that most general EAPs are not built to
cover.
Preferred referral partner
When HR, a manager, or a relocation specialist identifies an employee or partner who is
struggling with the identity and adjustment side of an international move, I become the namedreferral.
Sessions are billed directly or covered by the company, depending on what fits your
structure.
Individual referrals
Companies without a formal program can refer specific employees to me on a case-by-case basis.
This works particularly well in the first six months after a relocation, where adjustment and retention risk are highest.
Who I work with
The relocating employee. Their accompanying partner. The single re-locator figuring out a new country alone.
Anyone whose life moved across borders and is now reckoning with what thatchange asked of them.
Why specialized expat coaching
General coaches treat expat life as a backdrop. I treat it as the subject.
International moves carry a specific emotional grammar that standard coaching frameworks rarely address: the loss of professional identity in the trailing partner, the challenge of raising children without help, in a different language and culture, the grief of leaving aging parents behind, the question of where home now lives.
My coaching framework is built to meet people in those questions and walk them toward a steadier, more authored life abroad.
My background
I was born in Buenos Aires and have lived in 10 cities across 5 countries: Canada, the United States, the Bahamas, Colombia, and the Middle East (Bahrain and the UAE). I trained as an actor at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York, hold a law degree, became a mothe abroad, and built my coaching practice on every transition I went through. I am now based in Calgary, Canada, and work with clients globally.

Previous corporate experience

Before moving into coaching, I designed and led workshops for corporate clients in Argentina, applying acting principles to soft-skills development. Topics included creativity, public speaking, empathy, and teamwork.

That foundation in experiential, group-based learning shapes how I show up in coaching today, including the way I work with companies on individual employee support.
What outcomes companies can expect
-
Higher retention of relocated employees through the first 12 months.
-
Earlier intervention on adjustment issues that typically surface 3 to 6 months in.
-
Support for the trailing partner, who is consistently the strongest predictor of whether an assignment succeeds.
-
A bilingual option for Spanish-speaking employees and partners who cannot fully use
-
English-language EAPs.• Specialized care that does not duplicate or replace your existing therapy or EAP coverage. Coaching sits next to those, not on top of them.
